Backlit brown bear in a sunset meadow with god rays through spruce, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

Evening in the Meadow

Lake Clark National Park, Alaska

The sun drops toward the treeline and comes through the spruce in shafts, catching the mist still hanging over the meadow. A single bear stands in the open, rim-lit along its back, facing the last of the light. Behind it the forest goes soft and gold, the mountains fading up into haze. Everything is quiet and low and warm. One animal, one field, and the light pouring through. Photo © copyright by Michael Schultz.
