Between the Tides
Lake Clark National Park, Alaska
Low light comes in flat across the tidal flats and turns three bears into silhouettes. The sow leans in, a cub reaches up, and for a second they meet nose-to-nose while the third holds close behind. Down near the ground the wet sand catches the light and breaks it into a field of sparkle, so the family seems to stand on water. Behind them the haze swallows the treeline. Just shapes, and the quiet between them. Photo © copyright by Michael Schultz.
