Three towering rime-ice-encrusted spruce trees photographed from a low angle against a violet-to-lavender twilight sky along the Dalton Highway in Alaska.

Three Sentinels

Alaska

The Dalton Highway in February is another planet. The spruce up on the exposed ridges get buried under so much rime ice they stop looking like trees entirely. They stand in the snow like frozen figures, completely silent, while the sky cycles through colors that don't seem real. This was the last light before full darkness set in.
